We approach God, not by making Him the object of our thinking, but by discovering ourselves as the objects of His thinking. (A. Heschel, The Prophets Vol. II, p. 267).

About Me Print E-mail
I was born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in 1961. After graduating from the University of Utrecht with an MS in biology, I joined an evangelical missionary organization in 1988. After earning an MA in biblical studies through the University of the Nations in 1991, I taught biblical studies for a little over ten years, mostly in Germany. During these years I met Franziska, and we have been happily married since 1997.

In 2002 I enrolled at the Oxford Centre for Mission Studies as a PhD candidate and began to do research on Christian Zionism in Germany. In March 2007, my dissertation was accepted by the University of Wales, and I received the Doctor of Philosophy degree.

I am still an evangelical, active in full-time ministry, and as convinced as ever of the essential truth of evangelical faith – but not of every aspect of evangelical practice and thought, and I don’t like everything I see in our movement. To get the rest of that story, however, you will have to read the thesis.
